The energy industry is changing quickly. From an evolving workforce and increasing operational demands to new technologies and grid modernization, utilities are being asked to do more while navigating unprecedented change.

That is exactly why conversations between utility leaders matter.

This year, Mosaic brought together utility leaders representing 21 utilities for the 2026 Energy & Utility Roundtable in New Orleans, hosted in partnership with Entergy. The event created a space for leaders to step away from the day to day, share what they are seeing in their organizations, and have honest conversations about what it takes to prepare their people and operations for what comes next. The conversations were candid, practical, and focused on real challenges rather than theoretical solutions.

That peer exchange is what makes the Energy & Utility Roundtable unique. Leaders are not simply listening to industry trends. They are learning from organizations facing many of the same workforce, operational, and technology challenges they are navigating themselves.

Preparing the Workforce for WhatComes Next

Workforce evolution was a consistent theme throughout the conversation. Utilities are navigating retirements, an influx of less experienced employees, changing job responsibilities, and the need to transfer decades of institutional knowledge to the next generation.

The question is no longer simply how utilities train employees. It is how quickly can organizations build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and operational readiness their people need to perform safely and effectively?

That requires a broader approach to workforce development, one that connects training to actual job responsibilities, operational processes, technology, and the realities employees face in the field and control room.

People and Technology Must Move Together

Technology was another important part of theconversation. As utilities invest in modernization and adopt increasingly sophisticated technologies, the value of those investment sultimately depends on the people using them. New systems alone do not create transformation.

Organizations need the processes, training, change management, and workforce readiness to ensure their people can effectively adopt and use those technologies.  That intersection of people and technology is becoming increasingly important as utilities continue their digital transformation journeys.

Looking Ahead

The energy industry will continue to evolve, and the challenges facing utilities will not become simpler.

Preparing for that future will require continued collaboration across the industry and a willingness to rethink how utilities develop their people, improve their operations, and adopt new technology. Mosaic is proud to create a forum where those conversations can happen.

Thank you to Entergy for partnering with us to host this year's Roundtable, and to all of the utility leaders who contributed their experiences, perspectives, and ideas.

One shared goal: preparing people and organizations for what comes next.
