Grid Modernization Specialist, Network Model Engineer

Job Description:

Please Note:

  • You are not required to report into a Mosaic office; however, there is travel to client locations across North America required for this role (~50%)
  • Geographic flexibility: This position is open to candidates residing anywhere in the US.

Build the Models That Power the Modern Grid

If you have deep experience in electric distribution engineering, GIS modeling, or ADMS configuration and you want to work on some of the most technically complex and consequential projects in utility technology, we want to meet you.

We’re seeking a Grid Modernization Specialist, Network Model Engineer to serve as a senior technical expert on ADMS implementations across North America. This role is built for someone who understands the network model as the foundation everything else depends on: outage management, FLISR, Volt/VAR optimization, power flow, DER integration, and beyond. When the model is wrong, the system fails. You’re the person who makes sure it doesn’t.

This is a rare opportunity to apply deep technical expertise across multiple utilities simultaneously, accelerating grid modernization programs and building the model foundation that advanced grid operations depend on.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, validation, and governance of the electrical network model supporting ADMS deployments
  • Collaborate with utility GIS teams, distribution engineers, control room operations, IT, and ADMS vendors
  • Ensure the network model accurately reflects real-world conditions, including:
    • Substation impedance definitions
    • Three-phase phasing
    • SCADA telemetry mapping
    • GIS-to-ADMS transformation logic
  • Own and maintain model quality across the full project lifecycle, including:
    • Initial model build
    • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
    • System Integration Testing (SIT)
    • Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
    • User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
    • Cutover and go-live
  • Lead ADMS network model development and configuration
  • Define GIS-to-ADMS mapping rules and transformation logic
  • Establish and enforce data quality and validation processes
  • Develop and execute model test cases across all testing phases
  • Troubleshoot and resolve model issues impacting system performance
  • Support operational change management and staff training initiatives
  • Establish data standards and long-term network model governance frameworks
  • Define model maintenance workflows across GIS, SAP, and Aspen systems
  • Contribute to control room standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Provide thought leadership on:
    • Network model governance best practices
    • Digital twin capabilities
    • Emerging modeling requirements within Grid Modernization
  • Drive continuous improvement in model accuracy, performance, and governance

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years experience in electric distribution engineering, GIS modeling, or ADMS configuration.
  • Direct experience with ADMS platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric, GE, Siemens, OSI, ABB).
  • Experience with Esri Utility Network or other utility GIS platforms.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Distribution system topology and protection schemes
    • Three-phase power flow fundamentals
    • Switching operations and control room workflows
    • SCADA telemetry integration
  • Experience performing load flow validation and model convergence testing.
  • Familiarity with CIM, MultiSpeak, and integration data models.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Ability to manage complex data sets and resolve data integrity issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex modeling concepts to engineering and operations stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in deadline-driven, high-visibility project environments.
  • Ability to work independently in ambiguous or evolving client environments.
