Aging Workforce

Transferring Knowledge to the Next Generation.

Three Phase Process

Many utilities anticipate that, within the next three to five years, approximately 30 to 40 per cent of their workforces will be retirement-eligible and may choose to leave the workplace. As these employees depart, many of them will leave with important tacit (or undocumented) knowledge that is critical to the operation of their businesses.

Mosaic's research and client experience suggest that there is no single solution to address the challenges of an aging workforce. Instead, each utility will need to tailor an approach to its own business requirements and operating environment that includes a mix of tactics addressing turnover, recruiting, training, rewards, hiring and consulting strategies, and knowledge transfer.

Our performance consultants use a variety of methods for capturing and transferring knowledge that focus on optimizing the impact on the job. Within a performance context, our methods and techniques encompass a range of options, including:
» Training design and development (online, classroom based, coaching)
» Creation of reference information (documentation, manuals, online portals for access)
» Performance support materials (online help systems, job aids, business process mapping)
» Job peer support (structured on-the-job training, mentoring, job shadowing)
